SPOKANE, WA — The authors who have invaded our “quiet” little town continue with their story-telling, and not even our students are safe. They’ve launched a Young Adult series, Havenwood Falls High, revealing the stories of our local teenagers. In an effort to closely monitor this developing story, we’ve sat down with one of these authors, a USA Today Bestseller, Morgan Wylie, for an interview about her exposure of the Blackstone Witch Hunters and why she chose to write about our lovely town.
What inspired this particular storyline?
That’s a good question. I actually have no idea, lol. Let’s see… I had a young Blackstone witch hunter (Macy) not yet having realized her abilities as a hunter or truly understanding herself or her family. The Blackstones are an old family, so I knew I wanted a deep historical lineage with them. I needed to understand why they were in Havenwood Falls, especially since they were hunters in a town led by a coven of witches. What was their motivation to settle and then to stay there? From there, I could determine more for Macy: What could stop her? What could her subtle rebellion be? The story unfolded from there!
What made you choose these particular creatures?
I was looking for a creature different than I had written before. I thought of witches, but I knew some others were working on those, then the idea of hunters came into play (I think author Kallie Ross may have even brought it up in conversation), and it was a light-bulb moment. Yes! Witch-hunters!
What’s your favorite line?
When Macy is away from Havenwood Falls she has a moment after her memory has faded and says: “I can’t wait to remember you.” I love that line.
What did you enjoy most about writing this story?
I enjoyed a lot of things about writing this story: getting to know the characters and their stories and realizing the depth of Gallad and Macy’s relationship, but most of all I LOVED being immersed in the world of Havenwood Falls that Kristie Cook has created.
Have you ever lived in a place like Havenwood Falls? How does Havenwood Falls compare to where you call home?
No, I would love to, though! I live in the second biggest city in my state. Growing up, I always wanted to live in a small town where everyone knew your name… basically, I wanted to live in Stars Hollow, lol. However, I do live in the northwest corner of the US, so I have mountains and evergreens galore!
What made you decide to write a Havenwood Falls story?
When Kristie Cook (Creator and author friend) approached me about her idea, I believe she mentioned it was like a mash-up of Gilmore Girls meets Supernatural and my response was “Yes!” Who wouldn’t want to be involved with that creation?!
If you lived in Havenwood Falls, what kind of creature would you be and why?
Tough one for sure! I want to be SO many creatures from one of the dragons to a witch to a faerie… Ooo! Maybe I could be a chameleon, then I could change every day! I feel a new story coming on 😉
What has been the most surprising aspect of writing in this Shared World?
How fun it has been to meet and interact and collaborate with so many other authors. We’ve created our own little community, and it has been such an encouraging and creative time together. Actually, it isn’t that “surprising,” though, perhaps it‘s more what I’ve come to value and appreciate the most about this project.
Would you do a project like this again?
Absolutely! In fact, I have more coming from the Blackstone family in 2018!
Insider Kristie Cook confirms that Wylie is contracted to write another story about our town in the Legends of Havenwood Falls historical series launching June 2018. Do you have questions for Wylie? She will be joining the Havenwood Falls Book Club this Saturday, Oct. 21, at 10:30 a.m. MT (12:30 ET/9:30 PT) for a LIVE Q&A video session.
About Reawakened
Like all young witch hunters in Havenwood Falls, seventeen-year-old Macy Blackstone has been spelled to control her killer instincts. When she’s reawakened too early, though, her world flips upside down.
Daughter to the Blackstone witch hunters’ matriarch, Macy should have known what was coming, but her mother hadn’t prepared her. Overwhelmed with the surge of energy from the new moon coupled with a solar eclipse, she’s unable to handle the new sensations, and she flees town. To her surprise, she discovers an entire family branch of witch hunters living nearby. Only, the more she gets to know them, the more she learns about their dark intentions for both the witches and the Blackstones of Havenwood Falls.
Gallad Augustine, witch and boyfriend extraordinaire, possesses powerful magic, but Macy took off too soon for him to help her. Now, as her soul mate, his connection to her heart may be the only way for anyone to reach her.
Macy has one moon cycle—28 days—to uncover the witch hunters’ plans and return home before the town’s wards wipe her memory permanently and she forgets everything about her family, her home, and her one true love. And if she can’t remember them, she won’t be able to save them.
