Hello, everyone, and welcome to Shelf Indulgence! My name is Sedona Mathews and if you’re looking for your next favorite read, I’m your girl. Books are my life and there’s no greater joy than escaping into a story that captures your imagination and leaves you a little breathless at the end. I get a lot of readers stopping by my store, asking for my recommendation on what to read next. That’s why I’ve decided to do a fun spotlight each week called #WhatchaReadingWednesday, or #WRW for the hashtag savvy!
I’ve given this week’s recommendations a lot of thought because I know how important it is to find the perfect book to spend your weekend with. We want angst. We want intrigue. We want to fall in love. So, let’s see what’s out there . . . you ready?
Did you know yesterday was National Unicorn Day? A fun fact is that this mystical creature is also the official animal of Scotland! Cool, right? That’s why for this week, I’m recommending a few of my favorites – kilt-wearing highlanders and magic!
First off, if the Court asks you how you know this, pinky swear you won’t tell them it was me who told you. It can be a secret between us! Havenwood Falls is a town where anything is possible . . . especially the mystical. If you haven’t already read it, make sure you grab a copy of Savage Salvation by Kristie Cook. Next up, while we’re keeping secrets, definitely read Fata Morgana by E.J. Fechenda! This recommend comes from Holly, Micah’s teenaged guardian. She’s been working in the store with me after school and she positively RAVED about how much she liked this YA novel. Love stinks. Love bites. Love hurts. I’m a sucker for taglines and this drew me into Paisley and Cole’s story about what happens when two Fae fall in love and secrets get revealed. Life isn’t easy for teenagers and when powers awaken, it definitely throws a wrench in the works. I don’t want to spoil too much, but other readers have said this tale is incredibly heart wrenching and intoxicating. When I asked Holly if there was anything she’d like to add, she simply smiled and hugged the book to her chest. #mustread

Lastly, some of you might have heard about the TV show Outlander, but trust me, you need to read the books as well! More Claire, and more smexy Jamie Fraser! It’s rich in Scottish history as well as painting a beautiful picture of love that transcends time. If you love highlanders, this is definitely a series of books you need to read. If you love time travel, don’t hesitate to download. If you love epic sagas where love triumphs despite hardship and incredible odds . . . READ. THESE. BOOKS by author Diana Gabaldon! Trust me.
