HAVENWOOD FALLS — Today’s spotlight is on Aster McCabe, manager at Coffee Haven and creator of those delicious blueberry scones we all love.
Tell us about yourself – e.g., who are you, what do you do for work, favorite subject in school, what do you do for fun?
Hi, my name is Aster McCabe and I’ve recently been promoted to manager at Coffee Haven and yes, those blueberry scones are my recipe. Ever since I was little I’ve liked to bake. It’s something my mom and I still do together. I debated about going to culinary school, but didn’t want to lose my passion, so I pursued a business degree instead. So, with scones being my addiction, I tend to work out a lot. Thank God Havenwood Falls is surrounded by mountains. Between hiking and skiing, I stay in shape. It’s so nice to escape into the woods and just be, you know?
What is something unexpected that most people don’t know about you?
I love art and being around creative people, but I can’t draw or paint at all. We’re talking stick figures.
What do you love about living in/visiting Havenwood Falls? What frustrates you most?
Havenwood Falls is all I know. I was born and raised here. It’s home and I feel safe here because everyone knows me, but that can be the most frustrating part too. There aren’t any secrets or anonymity. Everyone knows my business.
Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world?
Oh man, anywhere in the world? Ireland. I’d trace my ancestry and also try some clotted cream, sample the scones. (laughs)
Where’s your favorite place to hang out in Havenwood Falls and why?
Our family cabin in the woods. It has a great view of the town and it’s far enough away to feel like I actually have gone somewhere.
What’s your favorite holiday/festival/special thing to do?
My favorite holiday is Halloween. Havenwood Falls goes all out and it’s so much fun.
If you love those scones at Coffee Haven, be sure to stop by and let Aster know. E.J. Fechenda has selected Aster as one of the stars in Fate, Love & Loyalty. But the question is – how much of that story is true?
