HAVENWOOD FALLS — Daughter of the Blackstone matriarch and future heiress of the Stone Falls Winery empire, young Macy Blackstone’s bloodline goes back to the founders of Havenwood Falls. While she faces much pressure and responsibility to come, she’s currently living life as a teenager and student at Havenwood Falls High School. It’s already been an eventful senior year for her. The Sun & Moon Tribune sat down with Macy for an exclusive interview.
Tell us about yourself – e.g., who are you, what do you do for work, favorite subject in school, what do you do for fun?
I am a descendant of the original member of our family (Marie Blackstone) who settled in Havenwood Falls a long time ago. I’m the middle child with brothers on either side and though I probably wouldn’t admit it to most, I kinda love it. Pink (light pink that is) and black are my signature colors—I think I could’ve handled living in the 50’s. People often think with my light blonde hair I’m a witch, but quite the opposite is true. I’m a witch hunter. Though I don’t actually hunt witches so I might try to think of a new title for myself, especially since my boyfriend is a witch—that doesn’t sound too good does it? I work part-time as a barista at Broastful Brew, which I love because free coffee, of course! My best friend Ruby and I like to hang out at the falls in the summer and we ski in the winter.
What is something unexpected that most people don’t know about you?
Don’t tell anyone in my family, but when I need some time alone I go out to the garage and sit in one of my grandpa’s old classic cars. They still smell of him and the cigars he used to smoke. He died a few years before I was born so I never knew him, but I pretend I did. From the home videos and the stories my grandma used to tell, I pretend we have long conversations and I get to know him.
What do you love about living in Havenwood Falls? What frustrates you most?
I love all the different types of families and people. You never know if you’re going to run into a dragon, or an elf, or a witch, or the most interesting of all: the humans, on any given day. I also love the mountains, it’s so beautiful. Frustrations? Not being able to leave town and see different places until I’m “of the appropriate age” and “can handle the curse”. My family is so strange.
Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world?
Well since I’ve never been anywhere else I’m not totally sure, but I’ve studied places and I think I would like to try to live somewhere warm… I mean really warm or at least warm year round just to see how they do it. Oh! Near the beach and the ocean. Yep, that’s where I want to live… near an ocean.
Where’s your favorite place to hang out in Havenwood Falls and why?
The vineyard. My family owns a vineyard called Stone Falls Winery. It’s been in my family forever and it’s evolved over the years into a favored tourist destination in Havenwood Falls. I love to walk through the vines and watch the grapes grow. And don’t tell anyone, but I even enjoy pressing grapes. Every year at harvest time, our family and the staff have a customary grape press just for fun to celebrate the end of the growing season. Guess what?! We actually stick our feet in a large barrel and we walk around squishing the grapes between our toes and it’s AWESOME!
What’s your favorite holiday/festival/special thing to do?
Fall for sure! That’s my favorite season. I love decorating for Christmas, but Fall beats it for overall vibe. We have homecoming, the Carnival at the Falls (that’s a crazy time), and Samhain. It’s so much fun!
The “fictional” events of Macy’s recent months have been penned by USA Today Bestselling Author Morgan Wylie in Reawakened (A Havenwood Falls High Novella). Wylie will be joining the Havenwood Falls Book Club LIVE this Saturday, starting at 12:30 p.m., to answer readers’ questions.
